Why Rent?

More than ever, business in western Canada is “project” based. Renting trucks to meet the short term demand for equipment (including trucks) is a smart way to manage costs. Companies are keeping their capital for long term amortized assets, and recognizing equipment such as trucks for what they are; a cost of doing business. Benefits of renting trucks include:

  • Managing to maximize a company’s owned vehicle utilization costs
  • Ability to charge 100% of the cost as expense vs leased and owned depreciation cost schedules
  • Maintain the company’s image with new vehicles
  • Minimize down-time due to damage and break downs with immediate replacements
  • Outfitted and ready for on-site and field conditions
  • Minimal maintenance requirements (under warranty ages vehicles only)
  • Affordability

We provide a variety of short and long-term transportation options to help you select the right vehicle with the most cost-effective rental arrangement for the job. With both standard and specialized vehicles within our fleet, trucks, vans, and SUVs can be rented for both short and long term periods. We offer a wide variety of makes and models for light duty rentals. Contact us directly for additional information.

Whether the requirement is to cover additional contract gains, peaks in business, seasonality or vehicle breakdowns, Summit’s fleet of rental vehicles is an ideal source of additional capacity.

With our rentals, you get the use of the vehicle for an unspecified term. Summit will periodically set (usually annually) the rental rate for short and long-term rental vehicles.

Summit Fleet understands the western Canadian marketplace and the demands it brings. Summit Fleet equips and provides trucks that are suited for this environment. Special outfitting is no problem; we will take care of everything from installing headache racks and buggy whips with glow worms, and can even find suitable GPS systems for your vehicles, so you always know where your business stands.

Rental Insurance

For rentals under 30 days, we carry third party liability insurance and a full value deductible collision coverage on all our vehicles. Should you wish to reduce that deductible, you have a number of options:

  • You can buy down the deductible with us for an additional daily cost.
  • Some credit cards have insurance coverage included, generally only for cars and some minivans. Please confirm your coverage with your card provider.
  • For personal use, you can add a rider to your automobile coverage to cover rentals.
  • You can insure the vehicles through your own corporate insurance program.

For rentals over 30 days, we can either carry the coverage for you, at an additional cost, or transfer the liability to your fleet endorsement. Credit card coverage terminates on the 31st day for most major cards.

If you are not taking our coverage, we will need the details of your insurance coverage before we can release the vehicle. These details are: the insurance company, policy number, expiry date, and your broker’s contact information.

What do I need in order to rent a vehicle from Summit Fleet?

You need to be 21 years old to satisfy our insurance requirements, to have a valid driver’s license, and to have a major credit card. This acts as a security deposit for the vehicle you are renting.

What about insurance?

For most clients, Summit Fleet provides third-party liability coverage and collision coverage with a high deductible. You can reduce the deductible by taking optional insurance coverage at an additional cost. Some corporate insurance plans include rentals under their fleet or office coverage. Please call us for specific information. Individuals may have the option of adding a rider for rentals to their personal insurance policy. Generally, the rental of trucks and vans is not covered by the insurance available for rentals through your credit card company. To be absolutely sure, ask your agent or credit card company for details.

Can I rent a commercial vehicle for a day or a weekend?

Yes, Summit Fleet offers daily, weekly and monthly rates.

What types of vehicles do you rent?

Most of the vehicles we rent are trucks, such as half, three-quarter and one-ton trucks, crew cabs, flat decks, and cube vans. We also carry cargo vans, minivans, cars and SUV’s. If you have specific requirements, let us know. If we don’t already have what you need we will do our best to get it for you.

What happens if I return a vehicle after business hours?

There is a key drop at our location for your use. Leave a message at 780-980-8554 indicating your vehicle return time. Our security personnel record the license plates of vehicles left on our lot after business hours. We will complete your contract the next business day and send you the final invoice.

What kind of mileage is included in the rental?

Generally the rate and included kilometre allowances are matched to your requirements. Some of our short-term daily rates may include higher allowances from time to time. Please call us for specific information.

What do I need to do if I have an accident?

Exchange information with the other party as required. Inform the police and Summit Fleet of the incident. We need to be involved as soon as possible. If the vehicle is safe to drive, return it to us. If it has to be towed, let us know the location and we can make alternate arrangements. As the owner of the vehicle, we have the right to determine who repairs our vehicles.

Who pays for gas and windshield damage?

You are responsible for keeping the vehicle fueled, and for any damage to the windshield.

What is normal wear and tear?

We protect our vehicles with boxliners, mudflaps and bug deflectors. Generally, if you treat the vehicle like it was yours, the wear and tear would be normal. Dents, deep scratches, mechanical breakage and excessive material inside or underneath the unit, such as mud, would be considered excess wear and tear.
